Tis a very, very old debate.

My personal opinion is they don't hurt/ blind anyone, so in this case I think police could find more resourceful things to do then enforce such heavy penalties for misuse of factory installed equipment.

It's something we should really take back to the manufacturer as a complaint. They have some responsibility for encouraging owners to use the device if they install it as standard equipment for Aus cars and state how to use it in the handbook etc.

PS- I have removed mine years ago as they make great brake ducts! My opinion still stands though.
