I've seen many weird and wonderful things people have done with DIY installs.

Theoretically doing an amp install in a WRX is reasonably straightforward. They aren't a difficult car to pull apart, have easy to access grommets in the firewall for getting power cable in to the amp. Fairly good clearance under seats for amps etc.

Just bear in mind that install mistakes can damage the car and/or the equipment and the repairs may cost many times what you might save doing it yourself. And don't forget, you may not even get the greatest potential out of your equipment even if it may seem to be working. Phase problems, engine noise etc can also be unforseen problems you may end up facing.
