Yer i went thru all that stuff but had no success. Went to an IE8 Help site n it turned out to be:

Tools>Internet Options>Privacy Tab>Advanced>Check Override Manual Cookie Handling

or the other option may have been to 'check' the Forms tab in the Autocomplete section. Both worked.
