Are you still using just the factory headunit?

If you are using the factory headunit then it would be wise to use an amp that has high level input option.

Now rather than buying just a mono amp for a sub I would be more inclined to use a 4 channel to run fronts and sub. Even if you are still using factory front speakers they will benefit from better amplification and some crossover filtering.

An ideal basic example would be an Alpine MRP F300 amp and Type S 12" woofer.
