As discussed, a Check Engine Light (CEL) means that a sensor is either malfunctioning or has gone out of range.. when you get a CEL, it means you can "limp" the car home or to a workshop.. it doesn't necessarily mean anything is terminally wrong with the car!
Best thing to do if you want to DIY is plug in an OBD Scanner to see what it is.. it could be a simple fix or you may need to take it to a workshop.
Being a bug eye, it could very well be an up-pipe EGT over-temp CEL.
