Well just had my opportunity at the Plain Street site. Would agree that the reverse detection is minimal if close to nothing until you go past the device. On the three occasions I went past in the reverse direction there were no other vehicles in either direction to get bounced or scattered laser.

Forward facing is a little better at approx 100m. However, I'd suggest the incline on the road would mean the laser beam would be going over the top of the vehicle until your very close. The large wall/fence (old cemetery) would also possibly block laser transmission. I did three passes , one with the V1 higher on the windscreen which actually reduced the detection distance it seemed (but not by much).

I don't think the site is beneficial for longer distance detection in comparison to the other test near UWA.

As such, I don't think further tests at Plain St will get any better detection and look forward to a more real world "more level" site. However, my conclusion is that we are going to be running blind on at least 50% of the time being when you pass a Poliscan faced in the reverse direction. I also suggest that the operators will be using every tactic to limit detection by placing on corners, on top or the bottom of inclines and utilising the reverse set-up.
