The lower the + offset number, the further the outer edge of the tyre is from the hub. Std Subaru offsets are from +52 to +55 in general and it's best for handling and for stopping the tyre rubbing on the guard lip to stay reasonably close to those figures. Generally anything from +45 up is OK and anything from +40 down isn't recommended.
