It's easy to fug it up if you don't read the instructions printed on the switch when the wheel is off. Basically the rotary contact only has a limited amount of slack before it tightens up and it snaps the wiring inside.

Looks like it's only a few screws to undo and replace. Not saying I'll do it myself, of course.
