If your foot is not on the clutch pedal.. the stinky clutch smell is a dead giveaway.

A way to test a slipping clutch is... Get into 4th gear. Start at low speed and nail the throttle. As you increase in speed and revs. usually a worn out clutch will present itself at maximum torque around 4000rpm. You would see the revs rise with no speed increase. and the smell also.
