Tracks =/= tuning ability.

When buying an ecu, I would look for what resolution it can provide, what fail safes can be implemented say in the case of you having low oil pressure, coolant temp etc etc.

If you were tuning an engine would you like to be able to specify the 'goal' points every 2,000rpm or every 100rpm? Think of it like plotting a graph. One would be very lumpy and have no valid data between points. The other would be silky smooth like a supermodel.

My suggestion as always is find your tuner first and get the ECU they recommend. No point rocking up with a Pectel as it is the best ecu in the world and no one knows how to tune it properly. However, do your own research on the ECU as some places may flog off the item with the most profit. The best way to see the ECU the tuner likes, see what ECU they run in their cars.

Fyi, I have just put a PowerFC in my MY98. I want a Motec and will replace it eventually, but the PowerFC is a great product and can be had at a great price.
