technically they are a unflued style heater. but u do need two vents near it, in the roof and in the wall. wat ur smelling AC is the oxide levels are getting high. with the convectors they have a oxygen deplection system, when the oxygen levels get to low, the heater turns off. thats wat all the fuss was about over the eastern states.
