The rings were bed in on the dyno to start with and then yes, the revs were varied for actually about the first 1500km. On the way out of Adelaide actually went through Clare etc, instead of just up the main drag to Port Augusta to get varied hills/gradients etc. I'm not quite that silly
In regards to the pistons Gav (STI325V6) would probably know, as that's where the motor came from.
