I'm thinking the opposite which is VM FreeNAS 8, run the disks at 2 Gb tgo get the host XP to recognise get FreeNAS to UFS (ZFS just too processor intensive) RAID the two 2 Tb disks. XP will access over 2 Tb on networked drives I believe.
I think I'd have to up the ram to at least 4 Gb allocating 1/2 to the physical machine and 1/2 to the VM.
Well, thats the idea ATM. The whole aim of my video recorder box was massive TV recording / file server at low cost. So far up to 8 channels recording with 7 Tb HD space (when the other four Tb works) for less than $500 using a donated office machine.
