Default Oil cooler O ring

Hi There.

The WRX motor in my Brumby suddenly developed a big oil leak from the oil filter region. Inspection showed the oil to be coming from between the oil cooler housing and where it mates with the block. After removing the manifold connecting pipe i got the housing off. There is a grotty looking orange rubber sealing ring between the housing and the block. It looks sort of brittle and contaminated so i presume it is the source of my oil leak.
Question 1 : Can I use a normal "o" ring in here , or another type of seal , or do I need to get the genuinne Subaru part ?

Question 2 : Does the housing just mate back up to the block or is it dowell located in any way. There is a small pin on the edge of the surface of the housing but it doesn't seem to line up with any thing ?

Thanks
