Only 99-02 STI had proper forged pistons, 2.5L engines will burn more oil than a 2L but that is no big issue, the 2.5L is generally reliable with proper maintenance up to around 200kw atw but for everyday driving the 2.5L is a very nice car with the extra torque, both engines make similar power, only the torque varys.
