I'm no mechanic nor have I seen the car so I won't speculate, but I have spoken to someone reliable that has explained the cars situation.

I would happily buy it and have even contemplated doing so.

If you aren't into any trackwork though, maybe not the car for you. For a daily drive you can't beat an 06/07 STi! It might be a bit hard to get a decent one on your budget.
