The 10w40 Motul is fine for winter driving, but I would be getting a heavier (higher viscosity) oil for summer driving i.e. a 15w40 or 15w50 for a bit of extra protection.

Depends on how warm and fuzzy you would like to feel.

My car doesn't burn, leak or use any between the 5k oil changes I do so I don't have a cause for concern there. As for using a different oil for summer driving I agree. By the time I have done 5k on this oil it will be starting to warm up again and I will use a higher viscosity (e.g 10w60).
I do appreciate your advice though as I am still a Subi Nubie.........
