There's substantially less work in fitting a dressed secondhand engine into a car than stripping, cleaning, inspecting, building and installing a new short engine, oil pump, radiator service, hoses, thermostat, timing belt and tensioners etc. (all I would have expected included in the estimate)

$5k installed is a good deal for a long STi engine. Even better if the price includes the STi turbo.
