We haven't totalled up the final cost, but it was well under $15k, even including purchasing the car and the second motor we got after lunching the first one.

Sure it's nice to spend $6k on an engine rebuild or $5k for a dog box or $3k worth of diffs but it's more important to just get out there and do some skids. It's not as if your driving is going to be up to the standard where diffs and huge brakes are going to make the difference.

Your times will improve heaps more by doing a season worth of events in a standard car than it will by saving up and throwing shiny bits at a car.

As for mountainbiking - I don't know what it is, but there seems to be heaps of crossover between moutainbikers and gravel rally peeps. Wonder whether there's the same crossover between roadies and tarmac/circuit guys.
