If it were say, an expensive recliner that had a 12 month warranty, lasted around two but would be expected to last 5+ years then you might have a chance. Just for the nature of the product (office chair), it would get heavy use. ie. all day, every day and despite costing $300 it realistically only has a life expectancy of a couple of years.

Funnily enough, I have exactly the same problem with my $300 high back chair from OfficeWorks. Wonder if it's the same chair. It's caught the woobly.
