To be honest, there was a lot of noise when I had the coilovers in, also keep in mind that I've been rocking AD08s for close to 30,000km now and don't mind it.
The noise that I had was a very high pitched metallic clunking sound that was there when going over the smallest of bumps.
Had they only made noise from time to time (e.g. large bumps or impacts) I wouldn't have minded as much.
There are some great suspension packages available that can be just as good in terms of performance as coilovers, but they don't have the adjustability that most people won't touch (for example, set and forget).
