Attempted to use the OEM harness to place the new microphone in the same position, unfortunately this wasn't a great success and there was a shit load of noise coming through.
Fast forward a couple of weeks and a replacement microphone has arrived.
Took me about 45 minutes to position the microphone, route the cable behind the dash (involved removal of the dash cluster) and mount the stereo back in place.

A few phone calls later and every one has said that the quality of the phone call was extremely good!

Excuse the pictures, they are straight from the phone and not the best
Will need to get some higher quality photos taken soon.

Can't help but agree here.
The stock speakers have improved substantially, but still lack bass.
Then again, 6.5" speakers aren't always there to provide low end bass.

Front speakers, subwoofer and enclosure will have to wait a couple of month or so as there have been some upgrades to the house that were more important.
