Default The ever changing AWKW issue

Having just recently gotten back into the WRX scene, i have noticed something quite odd.

In late 99, early 2000s, a good stock WRX (MY99) made about 92kw @ the wheels. A good WRX STi V6 made around 125kw @ wheels. I also remember an article from a magazine stating that a 200 awkw WRX had run a 11.4 second quarter mile time.
The APS WRX also made 148awkw and ran 175kph terminal speed (only with 148awkw)

Fast forward 13 years.

how easy is it to get 170awkw + out of a wrx (even GC8) wrx's these days, with 200awkw GC8 STi's being quite common.

My question is, are dyno numbers being slowly inflated over time? Cause similar mods today are making much more numbers than similar mods 13 years ago.

To get 200awkw out of a WRX 13 years ago required a 2.2L stroker and a big turbo, and front mount. A simple computer, exhaust and tune is nearly enough to get you there these days.

What gives?
