We could be here a while, as this debate/discussion is almost as controversial as verso vs. ecutek.

I haven't built and run in many highly strung engines... but I've never blown one up either.

Here's what I've done in the past with zero issues.

1. Tune it. At least check AFR's.
2. Non-synthetic oil for 1000k's ish.
3. Drop oil after 50kms and inspect for metal bits. The re-fill with mineral oil again.
4. Drive it hard. Vary rpm/load across all gears and entire rev range.
5. Find a big hill, put it in a high gear and make it labour/work up the hill. Come back down the hill in a lower gear/under compression/over-run.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for 1000kms
7. Synthetic oil.
8. Check tune. Ensure boost is set to 2bar.
9. Skids.

At the end of the day, follow your tuners advice.
(Unless of course you don't believe in tuning/don't have a tuner.)

EDIT: I agree with most of the techniques here: How To Run In Your Freshly Built Motor | Tune

It's the same block and near new 207 pistons. It only has the stock ecu so can't be tuned until I get the vipec but I will have the AFR checked asap. I'm using a running in oil (15 40) and have a drift magnetic oil filter and magnetic sump plug and will be changing the oil again tomorrow.
So it would be better to just get the vipec and tune now while running it in and then get it retuned once done and when I upgrade other parts ?
