Rears are flat as they are a completely new strut, the fronts are an insert and therefore retain the OEM strut housing and lower spring perch.
They look no different from OEM once assembled (the fronts that is).

The people that I have spoken to in regards to this issue believe that there is movement between the insert and the housing, even though everything it torque down to Koni's specification.
Grabbed a set of MY10 front struts and prepared them the same and took them to STechnic to show how tight a fit they are.
I have a spare insert and I've placed it in the housing and can't move it at all, that said I'm sure the weight of the car would be able to make it move if there was space.
