My original engine was finally cracked open last night to check out the extent of the dreaded piston ringland failure.
The good news...apart from being glazed the bores look good and unmarked. The block will live again after receiving some improved internals.
The interesting parts...the crank bearings show serious signs of wear. Considering that the car has not been run low on oil or tracked during my ownership... The wear is quite surprising. Make up your own minds. Does this look like a sub 60k km engine?
And of course...the Pistons.
