Evo-R - Public service announcement !!

Note - Mods feel free to close if you do not like this thread, secondly I'm simply sharing the facts i have gathered so that people can make their own minds up.

Prior to the Perth-Wrx Collie track day another member and i purchased some new brake components pads from Evolution R, i have a copy of the receipt at home if its necessary

After picking up i suspected they werent quite what i had paid for but never the less i needed them and they would do the job for collie.

I then received an Pm from Mao telling me that i had in fact received JDM HC+ pads

So i contacted PMU

Sent them these photos as they requested for comfirmation

This was the response i received back.

I don't know about you but that's not exactly what i thought i was buying but you live and you learn from your mistakes.

If anyone else has anything they wish to share im happy to post on your behalf.

Thanks for reading Taylor

so they are pmu hc+ but not branded as such? im confused...

DukeDrifter 10-03-2014 12:51 PM
so they are pmu hc+ but not branded as such? im confused...
The fronts are rebranded pmu gear for some asain markets while the rear pads are not. They have certain suppliers in Asia that they allow to rebrand. In no circumstance should these pads find there way to Australia.

TROLLEY 10-03-2014 12:55 PM

One is a HC+ but made aaaaaages ago
The other isn't even a Project Mu pad at all

XT43 10-03-2014 01:17 PM

Are project Mu taking it any further?

BOMB3R 10-03-2014 01:26 PM

So basically you bought ancient HC+ with EBC rears thrown in and to make matters worse Mao doesn't even know what he sold you?

TROLLEY 10-03-2014 01:34 PM

Jaron - I'm sure Mao knows exactly what he is selling. Probably relying on 99% of his customers not knowing what they're buying.

DukeDrifter 10-03-2014 01:34 PM
So basically you bought ancient HC+ with EBC rears thrown in and to make matters worse Mao doesn't even know what he sold you?
I has no real issue with what I got given until I received the above pm, you get what you pay for and I accept that.

I'm just sharing the information so that other members can make their own mind up.

DukeDrifter 10-03-2014 01:37 PM
Are project Mu taking it any further?
Burke, pmu Australia told me they are well aware of him and are doing everything they can to stop this sort of thing but it's extremely hard when they do not know who or where he is buying them from.

TROLLEY 10-03-2014 02:04 PM

LOL I sat here thinking to myself "Project Mao Pads lol@myownjoke" ... then saw it in the tags. Nice work whoever that was!

teejay 10-03-2014 02:11 PM

Link to cheap pads?

American Dave 10-03-2014 02:53 PM

link is in the pool room

astralex 10-03-2014 03:02 PM

So if he's supposedly selling products that aren't what he says they are, why do we still have peanuts on here that defend him or use his services?

Dan [GTI] 10-03-2014 03:05 PM

Do brake pads have use before period when the pad material and compound becomes compromised or deteriorates?
So if he's supposedly selling products that aren't what he says they are, why do we still have peanuts on here that defend him or use his services?
I am starting to ask the same thing. Either way it suck what happen to you Taylor. Hope it gets sorted.

DukeDrifter 10-03-2014 03:11 PM

I think a lot of people just pay for the work to be done to their car and are none the wiser to what they are actually buying and having installed.

Dan I'm not overly annoyed they work and I haven't had any maofunctions, the rest of the components I purchased are working well and are genuine. I just don't like being lied to and he just won't be getting my buisness ever again.

astralex 10-03-2014 03:22 PM

Maofunctions, I see what you did there...

This peanut hasn't been caught out previously, but has been put on the spot many times over claims he has made and all sorts that have not panned out too well for him, ending with him chucking a spit and threatening to take people to court.

If it was on A Current Affair I know I'd be sitting in my lounge chair saying "Well, I'll never go there".

DukeDrifter 10-03-2014 03:28 PM

Yeah hence posting up this thread with proof.

I've got the popcorn waiting for when Mao and his fanboys stumble accoss this.

MadDocker 10-03-2014 03:51 PM

Pretty terrible really.

Our business would be shut quicker then I could make legal threats if we tried anything like this. Name would be mud all over town.

Be interesting to see the response if any.

Don't worry Legal threats still to come, Mao is the master of useless threats.

What colour are they? King springs are always yellow afaik.
Colour doesn't guarantee that they are genuine or not, but just something to look at.

amtrapid 10-03-2014 04:51 PM

A previous business I worked for Used Mao for some parts on vehicles we were building back in the early 00s . We stopped using him the second time we bought stuff off him that was misrepresented. Cant believe he is still trying it on over a decade later.
The product he was supplying was nearly identical and nearly the same quality . But why not just say what it is if its comparable , shit some people save for ages to have that particular brand / product . To be supplied it thinking you got what you paid for and then to find out it isn't is gutting and disrespectful hence why I will never use said services.

mao 10-03-2014 06:01 PM

Taylor:

The part numbers are on the boxes as well as contact numbers of the supplier in Japan.

The pads are the same with no compound differences. Thet are manufactured by Project Mu and not Aisin and I will happily be proved wrong.

There are photos of the pads i purchased off you with the manufacture codes on them and you have emails from Project Mu Australia confirming that Japan made the front pads 6 years ago and then were re-branded by another supplier and that the rear pads are not anything Project Mu make or distribute.

Would love more details on your supplier as you aren't listed on any of Project Mu's websites as a registered stockist.

You don't have a case for the front ones, Pmu confirmed they were made by them and the compund was the same (who gives a fuck how old they are)

But the rear ones may be a different story, check with EBC as to the part number and go from there.......

EBC do make good pads though...

Ive already emailed them ebc to confirm, in regards to the fronts im simply putting it out there and there is nothing wrong with that is there ?

Nothing wrong with ebc pads if thats what id asked for and been told i was getting

mao 10-03-2014 06:19 PM

Look at the back of the box and Japanese supplier is on there whom you can verify.

I was complained against locally for parallel importing last year and moved onto the same pads with different packaging.

So please contact the Japanese supplier whose numbers are on the box and verify. Compounds are the exact same.

fatboy 10-03-2014 06:20 PM
Ive already emailed them ebc to confirm, in regards to the fronts im simply putting it out there and there is nothing wrong with that is there ?
Oh no i don't care if you put it out there or not, not my problem! But if the fronts have been found to be true, then logically, there doesn't seem to be an argument to be had there!

Not that i care one way or another, but you had conformation from PMU that the fronts were infact made by them and it is still part of the argument

I personally would be focussing on the rears if i had a suspition, and once confirmed then go about the warning (not that i do that but meh, each to their own i guess)

scoobywes 10-03-2014 06:22 PM

This doesn't sound like MaoPractice at all.

I know somebody had these same pads and they melted after a few hot laps at RAC.

We've already established in the first post that the compound is the same, project mu japan have confirmed that the rear pad is nothing they have ever made. What box it comes in doesn't concern me, the product code in engraved into the made does.
