Default Stereo Upgrade

Hey Gang,

I have an 01 rex and want to upgrade the sound.

I'm happy with the stocker 6 CD deck but want to upgrade the speakers and add an amp and sub.

What I want to do is spend about $1500 on the following:

- some decent front speakers (say 6.5 splits)
- a good quality 10" sub (I want very TIGHT bass not sloppy boomboom)
- an amplifer to run these (or two, one for sub and one for speakers)

Can anyone recommend me what I should get (Alpine, Pioneer, Sony etc...) and who should install it? Is it possible to connect an amp(s) and sub to the standard deck?

Cheers

PC

I recommend speaking to darren at technik car audio he is your man when it comes to quality audio and the custom work that comes out of the workshop is second to none

Yep, have to agree (i'm not shop bias) that Darren will definately put something nice together for you.

On a seperate note, im very happy with my MB Quarts setup which I installed myself (its not pretty thats for sure).

Fronts - MB Quarts , 6.5 Splits
Rear - MB Quarts , 3 ways
Sub - Alpine VR sub in a sealed 1 cubic ft box.

All Powered by a Alpine V-power amp, not alot of power but it will do for an everyday runner.

thanks for the advice boys yes I have heard very good things about Darren @ Technik.

I don't want to sell the stock stereo wombat!

As I said, I want to run everything from the stock 6CD deck - I think the deck is fine for sound but the speakers are absolute junk. I'm just not sure if the stock deck can support external amps / subs or not.

I ran with stock speakers for quite a while, to be honest sounded ok nothing sponno but yeah did the job. New Head unit will definately sound better as you have more control (i had an old Alpine deck) for cut offs and frequencys.

I also believe that stock speakers can handle up to about 15W RMS, not bad for such a paper thin thing.

In my experiences, I have always run an aftermarket (alpine) deck with the stock speakers. A better deck, amp and sub will suffice for an entry level system.

Better speakers are only used to full effect if you have something that can send clean and powerful signals to them.

Start with the deck, amp and sub then go from there.

I am sure that Darren will be more than helpful too.

all those fancy gear are useless without some proper sound deadening material in your car especially if you want tight bass. MY01+ door panels are flimsy

Yeah talk to Darren, I am very happy with what he did for my car.

Darren I expect that $20 in my account soon
