as always the cheaper the better, but i want soemthign that will last and sound good. i think MB quartz are out of the picture. i had some pioneer splits in my old car, whilst they arent as good they did the job bloody well.

as for amps, im no expert. in fact i know F/A about amps.

If i could get new splits for the front, maybe some for the back, sub and an amp plus fitting for a grand id be happy.

if your not picky bout amps or subs then you can always go for a some good alpine 6x9 and 6" with a decent deck from pioneer, eclipse, clarion or alpines...

a good alpine 6x9 would give you that boom boom...all this should be less than a grand

or you can go for avg sound with avg system *subs + amps*...

i would suggest you look for second hand ones if you are not picky bout your sound system.

Stick with factory speaker locations (6x9's are for bogans in commodores)
There are a few mobs out there making moulded fibreglass enclosures these days for rexs, look the goods too. There are fairly limited options for front speakers due to limited room between doorskin and glass. most installers will be able to tell you what will fit. I bought a set of infinity kappa 6.5s which fitted well with 10mm mdf spacers, I also dynamat both skins of my doors which made a huge difference. Best advice tho would be to listen to what others have and make a decision for yourself.

Shameless plug for what I'm selling, but I think it'd fit perfectly for what you're looking for (price-wise as well):

hertz splits are another bang for your buck option....
hertz splits, decent 4 channel amp and a 12" sub (sub list is endless) fairly decent sound. i would not worry bout the rears.
consider some dynamat in the boot unlees you are like me and not concerned about annoying ppl outside the car.....
i was on tight budget and the above combo thumps a treat.
see westside cannington macey (pm bumpstop), alberts morley/cannington....

personally i'd spend a grand on the front speakers alone, but im very picky with my music. on a budget, i'd never get rear speakers, money better spent on amps deadening etc.
as for which brand there is no 1 brand that is the best, its all a personal choice. what sounds good to me may sound like ass to you. i suggest you listen to as many different speakers as you can in either someones car or in a speaker specialist shop. (ie alberts or westside, stay clear of jb hifi and strathfields!) see what you like.

as for what you want, get a decent 4 channel amp, front speakers, and a single sub. 1 good sub will always sound better and louder than 2 crap subs. and it will take up less room and weigh less.

My advice is to work out your budget exactly...so that:

a) you don't overspend because the shop has a good salesman
b) so you can get best bang for your buck.

I can recommend MB Quart splits, Rockford amps and Eclipse subs, but is more on the high $.

some people spend to much time at Alberts here i can tell,

how can we be recomending him speakers without first asking him essiental basic question's such as:

1) Music taste
2) Power ie running off the deck or off an amp
3) Rough budget
4) Installed by yourself?

At the end of the day speaker choice is a personal opion, and sound quality is decided upon to listner, if you can answer the two questions above i can at least point you in the right direction of what speaker model/brands to start listening to you.
