I tried that once and then couldn't play it with any of the media devices I had. I've since got VLC, will that do it?

fark .ogg files! download or rip the cd's using .flac

Use a program called dbpoweramp... i can send you a copy if you require it.

a full flac cd should see ~600mb... definitely notice the difference between flac and mp3.

audio quality is highly subjective there is lots of reasons the quality of your audio is suffering - to start with lots and lots of modern music is just badly recorded...

google 'loudness wars' if you want to know why.


burning a disc faster than 4x can introduce a lot of errors to the bit stream, burning a disc at full speed has shown to give a huge number of errors that while may well be corrected on the fly still introduces a lot of jitter to the signal.

after you've done this a little known trick you can try out is to use a black permanent marker on the edges on the cd to stop stray refractions causing errors in the reading. I know a few people are going to scream about that idea, but I have found the improvement to be rather obvious given a sufficiently good system.
