Default Spot Lights to replace my fogies

I've searched for fog lights, spot lights etc, but can only seem to find for sale or wanted.

What I need to know is, if I buy some decent 'spot' lights to replace my useless 'fog' lights, do i ned to upgrade the wire or fuse or anything? I want some serious high beam for country driving etc

I'm going to head down to auto one after work and see what they say,

I have had my foggies replaced with spotlights on my GC8.
It was done when I bought the car. They have been wired in with my highbeam. From the top of my head I think there is a glass fuse relay in there as well.
I should have some time to check it out today to make sure if you like.

you will need a relay and fuse for spotlights.

fog lights are 7Watts each, spotties are like 50W or 100W depending.

its a pretty easy DIY, you shoudl be able to buy the wiring in a kit form from Repco/supercheap etc.

please let me know where you buy the spotlights from ..... i want to do it to mine also.

cheers, steve.

nah dont worry about it, dont put your self out,
i'll check with auto one and see what they say. I was hoping to just replace the fog lamps with the spotties and run them off the same button, not connected with the high beam. i'll see how i go, cheers thoe

Could always just upgrade the globes?

From memory the high beam globe in a EF falcon is the same as the fog light globe, but a higher wattage.

= Yellow sticker

Spot light MUST be wired such that they ONLY come on with the
high-beam.

Do you really think you would get caught though? I mean I reckon you would have to be bloody unlucky for the cops will check that.

Better safe than sorry. Its not that much harder to do. It is interesting
that you're more worried about "getting caught" than "causing an accident"

Here is the scenario:
You're driving with a mate through the hills. You turn on your spotlights...
some car is up your tail and you are watching them in your mirror...
You then see car coming towards you and dip your lights... but forget the
spotlights. Oncoming car leaves the road and crashes killing 1 and injuring 2.
The police WILL inspect your vehicle to see if its roadworthy, and that is when
you will get reamed my friend. They will say the incorrect wired was a
contributing cause to the death. Can you live with that ?

IF you're lucky you won't kill anyone and will get caught at a booze bus etc...

Take the time. Do it right.
