Hi Packa

I replaced my alternator with a Impreza Sports Wagan rated at 90amps "so i was told"

Plus replaced battery with Optima D34 -

0 gauge earth lead
4 - gauge starter
1 - gauge power lead "for stereo"

Hav had no problems at all

If the lights are dimming it usually means that the amp draw from your amp is to much for what your alternator is putting out. When the car is running the battery doesnt make any difference, the battery is only for starting the car, the alternator charges all the electrical "stuff " while the motor is running. A cap would help because they store power, so in affect its like having a high amp alternator...

to answer the question,

yes, check a JDM GC8 STI, they have 90amp alternators.
