I had a look at the manual a couple of weeks ago and i think its says you have to remove the headlight assemblies, not 100% sure though, but is the reason i have held off for a while

I offered to help. In exchange for beers and bbq.

Lets face it the work im doing is for free, the beers and bbq are just the B&B tax associated with the work.

I am serious, just read the manual again:

Parking Light
The headlight assembly must be removed before the parking bulbs can be replaced. When the headlight assembly has been removed and then reinstalled, it may become necessary to make a headlight aiming adjustment. It may be difficult to replace the bulbs. Have your SUBARU dealer replace the bulbs if necessary.

then it goes on for a page and a half on how to remove the front grill before you can get to the headlight.
