Default Number Plate Protection

Hi Peoples,

Just wondering what forum members do about protecting their number plates. I've just changed my number plates and found my old front ones looking crappy and the back one nice and clean.

Are the clear number plate protectors illegal? Thought I heard that somewhere?

My new plates are pollycarbonate and hope to keep them in good nick. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Glen.

I have had clear number plate protectors for ages (not those crappy ones with lines in the middle) and have been over pits 3 times with them, been pulled over countless number of times and i've only been warned once about them.

Actually it was more along the lines of "you know those number plate covers dont stop you from being caught speeding dont you, best to take them off..." type thing.

I know they look heaps better on a black car

Not sure where i got mine from, perhaps SuperCrap or Big W?

try the usual - kmart, supercheap, big w etc etc
they are only illegal if they reflect light (i.e. multi-nova's camera flash)

Wouldn't most plastic reflect light?

I did a google search and found some links to the crappy ones with lines through them that Mat was referring to. Whats with that anyway! It said under it "... with thin black lines for that exotic look". More like for that crappy look!

Glen if you find out where to get the clear ones without lines through them, please let me know, My have just gone missing.....

So thats 2 sets of valve caps and number plate protectors gone walkies now. No damage which suspects it may be someone playing silly buggers...

Yeah Mat.

Got mine from Supercheap Auto, normally $30 but they were on sale last week for $25. Clear ones no lines. I got the slimline ones. Looks good.

my mate was mentioning that there are numberplate protectors with a switch that puts a film across it making it light reflective but only wen u flick the switch. Similar to luxo barge cars that have it on their rear vision mirrors. Dont know if its true or not but i wouldnt mind some.

a switch that places a film making the plastic reflective? why not wire up a switch to swap numberplates or just make them disappear....
