Default Tow Ball Attachment...

I bought my WRX about 2 months ago now, and been thinking about taking off the tow ball attachment. I looked under the car last night and its welded on. Its welded on to a bar that runs across the back of the car. Is this normal? Or is that bar be added on as well?

Thanks

Yes, thats normal. Most reece hitches are in some way welded onto a main bar, which then has brackets welded on that bolt on to the main chassis. You should find it pretty easy to remove. To put a heavy duty on a commonwhore, its a matter of 6 bolts - (after removing bumper) undo the steel bumper reenforcement behind the bumper bolt back on over the top of towbar and two bolts near fuel tank.

I would say rex wouldnt be too different..... pop the bumper off and have a look - dibs if your giving it away

I think the bar is attached on either end to the tow hooks, two big (17mm?) bolts at each end and it drops out. Get under and take a photo though and we can confirm

I've got manuals (PDF's) for Piggy (MY06) if you want. Bumpers will be the same. PM me your email and I can forward.

I don't think you even need to remove the bumper? but I've never seen one up close.
Pics!

Looks like a std hitch receiver tow bar. The square receiver is welded to the cross bar. The cross bar fixes to the chassis via welded mount plates and tube spaced bolts.
The hitch is the only removable part and in that pic its already removed.

If you are looking to remove the whole cross bar receiver then its a matter of unbolting the side mounting plates from the chassis. You may need to drop the muffler to get to some of the bolts.

If you send Hayman Reece a message with the model details of the car they should be able to provide you with a pdf of the mounting instructions.

Thanks for all the info guys!

WOW seems like a mission, lol,

Hmm, ill take some pics when i get home

Hopefully it isnt too hard to take off...

I didnt even notice it for the first week or so when i got the WRX, LOL!

Also, Bob, just wondering with the side mounting plates from the chassis, would i need to take the bumper off to unbolt these? Are they hard to get to? Thanks
