Default Carbon fiber wrap for roof

Hey guys,

Just after a bit of advice from anyone who has carbon wrapped their roof.

Thinking about doing it to my 05 STi, but i am curious to know how durable it is...does it fade or start to lift after a period of time? Also if you need to remove it does it damage or mark the paint in any way? Is 3M the best brand to go for?

From my searching of the forum it seems that my best choice would be to go to GT Graphics to get this sorted - i know i can ask Gav these very questions, but just curious to read some other opinions.

Thanks for the help

Cheers

Dan

Durable - I know of a car thats now on its 3rd year with the stuff.

It should damage paint upon removal. Shouldnt.

And yes, Gav is the man.

Doesnt fade from what I have seen, and there is an art to putting it on correctly.
Never seen anyone take it off, but my bet would be that it may take some of the clear coat with it.
I would lay on a couple of layers of wax before applying the wrap.

Like you say, best to talk to Gav from GT Graphics.

I guess the best testaments are the number of branded car that salespeople drive everyday - a large % of them are vinyl wrapped and I can't recall looking at one thinking that it looks faded to shit or anything like that. I guess it removes OK since these comapnies want a return on the vehicle come sale time and they wouldn't keep doing it if it had a major affect on the paintwork.....

Thanks for the advice guys.

I would figure it would be pretty resistant to fading (etc) and that once its applied it's pretty much stuck on.

Think I will give it a go...will add a couple more layers of wax first as a precaution, although I suspect they might clean the surface first to maximize adhesion. Won't hurt either way.

it was on a car i bought a while ago, but i ripped it all off.
where the factory paint was applied to metal taking off the wrap didnt damage the paint at all.
but on the plastic rain 'gutters' that ran the length of the roof, there was nothing i could do to stop the paint getting ripped off completely.

Don't waste your time waxing it, they will strip it all off

my vinyl has been on the car for six or so years now, it has faded slightly but not to the extent that it looks bad.No problems with lifting around edges either and it has been through many car washes and many muddy gravel patches.

Gav/Ryan wrapping my sponsored EVO in Carbon

Panels are rubbed down with alcohol, so no point waxing. They also pulled out all the gutter strips etc, and pushed the edges of the vinyl UNDER the rubber (not trim against it)
