Polish women inside! [SFW]
Now that I have your attention.
I want to give my car a good polish But am not too cluey on which products would best suit my application. The car is new, so I won't need any paint restoration, ideally i'm just looking to give it a nice polish for that mirror look we all love! Previously i've just used whatever I had in the shed - but i've now run out so looking for suggestions Preferably something I can just zip down to supercheap, or auto pro to buy, not something i'll have to order online and wait a week. If it helps the car is white pearl.

I prefer autoglym ultra shine, the one with the black logo. $40 a bottle, but goes well

PS. what you're looking for is not a polish
A polish is something that will remove a fine layer from the surface. Leaving it exposed and in it's raw finish. You want a wax. A wax gives shine and protection

As Adz said - dont go polishing the car. If you dont have the right Tools/Product/Technique or Time you will just make things worse.
Polish is used to cut away at the paint with the objective or lowering the overall surface level to that of fine scratches and swirls. If you cannot see swirling or "spider webs" then you have no real need for a polish. What you want to just make it super glossy and shiny, is to follow the following steps. - Wash the car down with a 2 Bucket Wash. Use a Microfiber Washmitt. - Then go over the car with a Claybar to remove dirt which has stuck to the paint that you cant get off with a wash. Usually this is little black or orange specs. These will lower the overall shine so you need to get them off. Pickup a Meguiars Claybar kit from Repco which comes with the Ultimate Detailing Spray - use this as the lubricant. - Next, apply the coat of wax of your choice. Again as you are just looking for a quick off the shelf, try Meguiars TechWax or Deep Crystal / Wet Look. Apply these with a microfiber polishing pad. You buy them in a pack of 2 from Repco/SCA. Put it on in straight lines, try to keep it evenly spread out. The more even your wax coat is, the more shiny in the end. - Leave it to bond for 15 minutes or so or until it is hazy. If you can wipe it off easily with your finger, then its time to buff it off. Dont apply or wash in circular motions. This just creates swirls. Work in straight lines. |

Is the claybar absolutely needed? As I said it's basically a brand new car (-4000kms) which has been washed 1 or 2 times every week since purchase. So there's no real build up of the marks you mentioned. Just looking to bring some sparkle sparkle shine back to my baby And have a little time to kill tomorrow. As requested. A polish girl for you!

clay bar ensures the surface is 110% clean and prepped for anything you put on it. It will give the wax some added durability.
Not essential no, will just help to ensure a frictionless finish. Don't be shy with the wax. Put it on thinly.. but at least two coats for its initial application.

Some of the Meguiars higher end products are sufficiently good for home use. |
