Koby, below is a photo of a '09 WRX with 18 x 9.5" +35
It hangs out the guards by 8-10mm. If you get a prick of a cop, you'll cop a yellow. It's just a case of whether you want to risk it.

ok thats good to know thank you. I'm probably going to go with 18x9" +38 which should have less of over hang yeh?

legally speaking you are allowed to increase wheel track by 25mm maximum.
only 12.5 mm per side. the most common way of changing wheel track is by changing wheel offset. to keep it legal and more importantly your insurance valid you can theoretically run 12.5mm less off set than the standard wheels. for example if you car came factory with +55mm offset wheels you can change wheel offset to +42.5mm. please note; wheel spacers, and excessive negative camber will also increase wheel track.
