Default Dash Cam

Went looking around for a Dash cams today none seem to say they record at night i.e. night vision.
Is this actually needed or will it still record ok with the street lights.

If anyone knows where any half decent are sold please let me know.

Have a full 1080 one with IR LED's so records at night. Picture is actually really good with ambient light! You don't really need the IR but it does make a big difference with low light. Paid like $90on eBay,

$40 if with box and all accessories?

For what it's worth, Dash Cam Owners Australia on FB do the odd cam review.

Than for the replies and links guys.
I'm just basically wanting to know if I need night vision or will the camera be ok with street lights and headlights if anything happens.

If so I'd probably just go to Harvey Norman and grab an navigator one.
Don't want to spend big bucks but still want quality

One way to find out is to mount the camera in the car and go for a drive at night, then review the footage... :P

I have a Blackvue in my car and the night footage is fine. It would be perfectly acceptable for reviewing any accident or incident I would think. The headlights seem to provide enough light to highlight the space in front of the car for the camera to record.

Here's a sample of a Blackvue dash cam at night. This is on Tonkin Highway so the street lighting is a bit shite so you can get an idea of what the night quality will be.

Top-Deck and StewyD32 like this.

Thanks for the effort putting it up thehowlfactor.
That quality seems fine.
Will probably head out and get one before the weekend.

was thinking of getting this. Not the best looking one but has what I want:
GPS, loop recording, HD quality, Auto bump
