Thumbs up DIY Devilfish Quality $30 intercooler water spray system

installed on 07 WRX - not tested on other models

Difficulty - Easy

Mechanical - <1 hour
Electrical - <1 hour

This is what you will need to buy.

Cable ties x 20 = $cheap

Supercheap Auto Universal Washer System EW-3T3 (must be this one)= $23

Bunnings No.2 Yellow nozzel jets = $2

Sticky Ty-Wrap Bases

First locate the right side of the intercooler look in the gap

you should see the side of the suspension turret has 2 10mm threaded bolt holes

Using the bolts Supplied in the washer kit affix the brown bracket to the holes it will line up perfectly (luck!)

make sure they are nice and tight using a 10mm socket, you may need to move the fuel/AC lines and the hose clip on the turret for the next step.

Simply(!) slide the washer bottle assembly onto the bracket, it will fit! this is the most fiddly part just take your time! make sure you have connected the water hoses and wiring to the motor!!
The bottle will fit snugly between the turret and the bracket holding the wiring to the battery.

next simply follow the windscreen washer hose with your new hose cable tying them together dont tighten the cable ties too tight and crimp the hoses!

affix the stick tywrap bases and route as shown.

tuck the hose thro both ends of the rubber intercooler hood as shown.

attach the sprayer heads

I simply bought a latching IC sprayer switch from a breakers, and wired it up simply pulling power from the Cig lighter socket so it wont run when the ignition is off, Make sure you fuse the power line as close to the battery as possible!

sit back and watch in awe as your $30 system dumps a great volume of fine spray on your IC

Mod please can you move this to the DIY

now you need to start charing $150 to do it, and your set...

get ready for the PM's..

looks good, i'd like to see how the spray goes in real life, and also, how hot the water gets in that tank with it being in your engine bay... other than that, nice nice..

EDIT: Lol, chronic beat me to it... first customer already!

Well its been fine so far, car "feels" better on a hot day with it running, heat isnt really an issue as its low down and the other side from the turbo, the only drawback is that it only holds a few liters, so its defo a traffic light grand prix or drags use only, will dump the tank fairly quickly, ill time it to see how long it lasts. An intelligent sprayer controller would cut the water usage quite a bit, but ill stick with a switch!

As far as installing it, its piss easy, it just takes time, i'm expecting a run on the washer kits from supercheap tho! they are almost designed to fit in that gap, the bolts included in the kit even fit ! there is a momentary switch and jets included in the kit so actually it could only cost $23 all in!

they are designed for reticulation systems, they work at mains water pressure, using them on my system gives a high volume fine spray, actually pretty perfect, they look blobby because of the shutter speed of the camera.

I used those exact ones - very fine mist and worked like a treat!
