Huh?

Mister Two 16-11-2010 06:51 PM

Do you do regular track days? more than 10 laps at a time?

If the answer is no, then dont waste your money.

huey 16-11-2010 06:52 PM

you can put the gauge wherever you think is practical....up to you really

gazlaz 16-11-2010 06:55 PM

Think he means where does the sensor for the oil temp gauge go

Mister Two 16-11-2010 06:58 PM

The oil temp sensor goes in a sandwich plate directly above the oil filter.

apg39 16-11-2010 07:01 PM

I thought that too, but it looks like he typed it on the mobile while whacking one off & didn't even check to see if it makes sense, so I'm not sure.

I have looked above the oil filtre do i have to take the oil filtre of to see it?
What should it look like? What am i looking for?

tuna 16-11-2010 10:24 PM

yes, you need an oil sandwitch plate between the filter and block to mount the temp probe/pressure sensor.

Disruptin 16-11-2010 10:37 PM

Is there a way without drilling holes??

MCL 16-11-2010 10:44 PM
Is there a way without drilling holes??
Maybe a trip to one of the forum recommended workshops is in order, get them to fit the gauge for you.

I only say this due to the fact you're considering drilling holes in your engine!

Disruptin 16-11-2010 10:47 PM

I just need to know where i can screw the sensor into

Disruptin 16-11-2010 10:55 PM

Any suggestions on where to by these?

Disruptin 16-11-2010 11:06 PM

Or can i use the second oil gallery closest to the firewall?
(i alrdy got a oil pressure sender in the font under the alternator)

astralex 16-11-2010 11:14 PM

Seriously, where in Gods name did you learn to write?

Rossco 16-11-2010 11:19 PM

Pictures say 1000 words....

Safest way...Buy the Subaru oil gallery adapter:

It's about $15 from your local dealer

Done & done & no oil leakage fire hazard.

BALISTC 16-11-2010 11:38 PM

P.S. if you don't know what an oil filter looks like, don't even bother attempting the above.

Strubaru 17-11-2010 08:21 AM

hot tip: get a proper 8mm hex drive to fit a 1/2" drive socket, it will be bloody tight as, trying to get it off with just an allen key will lead to fail ;)

This should be moved to the mechanic DIY section and stickied. Great post Rosco!

Obviously the whole post :)

Rossco 17-11-2010 10:58 AM

I thought I'd posted that ages ago...I searched here for an hour lastnight & no luck???

GTB Liberty 17-11-2010 11:59 AM

If i'd found the thread I originally posted that info in I would have!

But, If I can't find it what hope does a newb have??

Panda02 17-11-2010 06:46 PM

Rossco love that step by step instruction :)
i think you just "MIGHT" have saved this guy's engine...

Jordiee 17-11-2010 06:57 PM

be good if you could do one of them for an ej207 install rossco ;)

Rossco 17-11-2010 07:10 PM
be good if you could do one of them for an ej207 install Rossco ;)
It's the same deal, exactly the same.

P.s I can't take the credit for those photo's/step by step, I 'borrowed' them.

I did this to my car when I fitted my Defi's a year or so ago.

Jordiee 17-11-2010 07:12 PM

as an ej205 or an oil temp sensor?

Rossco 17-11-2010 07:21 PM
as an ej205 or an oil temp sensor?
All EJ20 crankcases regardless of year have the same blanked off oil gallery & plug.

Jordiee 17-11-2010 07:22 PM

hahahaha no i meant a step-by-step photo instruction for an ej207 engine build
i was taking the piss

probably should have made it more obvious

Man you have serious 'no idea what you're posting, so you'll change the subject to what ever sounds good issues'

Also:

something like this would be awesome when you get started Rossco.

sorry marc,
how is my first post "be good if you could do one of them for an ej207 install rossco"
showing "no idea"?
the "one of them" in the post was referring to the step-by-step photo-instruction rossco just posted regarding the oil temp plug

when rossco said "exactly the same", i assumed he had understood my previous post (which was referring to an engine build not a temp sensor install) and was suggesting that an ej207 build was exactly the same as an ej205 build

i didn't think it was exactly the same, so i double checked whether rossco had understood my question by posting "as an ej205 or an oil temp sensor?"

it turns out he thought i was saying 'can you do a step-by-step oil temp install for an ej207"

which i wasn't

now you've made me hijack the thread

tuna 17-11-2010 08:04 PM

thread answers the question(s).
