Not true!.....have you actually tried different HDMI cables on the same setup?
I can guaranty you there is a difference particularly in the audio side but at the end of the day if your home theatre gear is fairly basic you may not hear/see the difference a high end cable can make.....the same comments were made when optical/toslink connections entered the home audio/theatre scene but those even with a fairly modest theatre setup will concede that a quality fibre optic cable [I]does [/I] make a difference.

x 1 billion. My mate that was living with us had a ps3 with just rca cables. i told him to get the hdmi cable and it was pure porn.

Ive also heard that with the prices (this was a little while ago now) it was more value getting the ps3 even just for blu-ray as it was better than most stand alone players. Plus the fact you can play games too :D

Just so you know I am a dedicated audiophile and purist. My home theatre consists of a Sony 40" full HD LCD (to be upped to a Samsung Series 6 50" Full HD plasma as soon as fundage permits), Yamaha RX-3800 7.1 receiver, Bowers & Wilkins 683 series mains (running bi-amped :D :D :D ) and ASW610XP DVC, dual 200W Ice-Power amped 10" sub of greatness! Anywho, I have not perceived any difference what-so-ever between the (overpriced) HDMI cables Surround Sounds gave me and the one I got from Dick Smiths. I wouldn't have bothered if I wasn't offered them for free!

In saying that, I have invested heavily in speaker cabling. $400 for 5m of sub cable, and $35/m for the main speaker cabling (which are x2 because they are bi-wired :D :D :D ).

Trust me, I can see and hear every nuance in the digital feed, no complaints here from my *cheap* HDMI cables. When Eric Clapton is plucking strings and you can hear him launch a silent but deadly, you know you're on a good thing :cool: You were saying?? :p

Hahaha, I remember back when I was at Uni and working at Harvey Norman, I loved selling those expensive HDMI cables...$200, they cost around 30 or 40...anyhoo was bulk comission for me! :D

Sorry phizzle, not looking at comparing dick sizes but I will say that I could comfortably afford an Ugly Betty with the proceeds I've spent sitting in my home theatre room.....I also, could find dozens of $2 reviews across the net matching your example BUT to me the real world examples/tests are what count, of which I have done with varying results. Like most things in this world you [B][I]do [/I] [/B] ultimately get what you pay for.

OP in that thread said exactly what you believe, most others that joined in share my beleifs............
And I'm not comparing dick sizes BXT, you simply said "if your home theatre gear is basic" to which I assured you it is not! I could also find various $2 articles on the subject. Like most things on TeH InTeRnEtZ there are fors and againsts for any topic you care to name. The trick is to seek out industry professionals and the like and find out first hand what shit sticks to the wall when thrown!!! Experts > Salesmen

Anyway sooooo off topic, Fred's buying a PS3 and has HDMI cables already, I'm ultra happy with my theatre as are you with yours. Situation sorted!

Ive got a full theatre setup with 100" screen and all the gear in one room, a 58" full HD plasma in another both with 360's and blurays all running cheap $25 HDMI cables from here ;

Personally i wouldnt trust a $5 chinese special, but the EZYHD ones are perfect..

Like you I also spent a lot more on speaker cable as that does make a difference when talking decent gear

Watched Iron Man on my new (1 week old) PS3 last night in Blueray, 50inch HD plasma and 7.1 surround (Decent amp and speakers) $50 DSE HDMI Cables and expensive oxygen free tin speaker wire.

Pretty much. I read somewhere there were only 1200 different BD titles currently released on the Australian market. That includes music/concerts etc so not a true indication of how many different movies are out.. Just have to sit tight and pay through the nose as new ones come out :o
