PS3 Blu-ray - any good?

What's the quality of the BR like on the PS3?

Just bought a new HD LCD & need a BR player - the PS3 looks tempting.

Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

I basically only use my PS3 for blurays. It is fantastic. Firmware upgrades also allows it to have all the newest features implemented, wifi for BDLive etc (I'm sure some of the standalones can do this now, but was limited when I bought my PS3)

Oh and it plays GT5 :D

Yep.. kill two birds with one stone.

bluray load times are much faster on PS3 i find.

No problem with my PS3 playing Blu-ray here. All I can say is that Blu-Ray is bloody awesome

whatever you do....

MAKE SURE YOU GET A HDMI CABLE

its amazing what a difference it makes

Honesty heres my advice, i love my system

40" HD LCD + PS3 + HDMI + 640GB External HDD = MULTIMEDIA HEAVEN

i cant directly play all movies and tv shows i download etc.

Same here....PS3's Bluray's pic & sound quality is excellent.....I remember reading a review last year and it rated as one of the best for just Bluray playback.

As Wrexter said, get yourself the best HDMI cable you can afford....I went for a 2m Keydigital HDMI cable from Frank Prowse Hi-Fi and while not cheap (around $200) remember this is what's transfering the FULL HD audio & picture so is quite possibly the most important cable in the system.

As the signal is fully digital, it is not subject to massive interference like the days of old. No need to fork out for the best HDMI cable, Dick Smiths etc ones will do. Just make sure they are v1.3 HDMI cables and all will be sweet
