DivX.. no sound, have the latest decoder.
Hi Guys,
i have 2 files that won't play sound on this pc. Both are DivX, both play on my laptop with sound, but i have not put any decoders on that all. This machine XP, laptop Fista. 1 is Foo Fighters live at Wembley, the other is the Imax Speedway thing. please help ! i'll payback in hugs and kisses. Thanks. Pete. |

So you've confirmed the sound is alright on that PC by:
a) Checking your sound devices in Device Manager b) Made sure it's not muted etc etc c) Using Windows Sounds to confirm audio from Windows is OK. Install the K-Lite Codec Pack, then try again. |

yeha i can play everything else, just these 2 files. I just d/loaded a program called G spot which you put the files into that tells you what programs had been used to compress them, and it came up Xvid and Mp4v, so i got the Xvid codec and it's exactly the same.
Going to download that k-lite codec pack now. |

The K-Lite Codec pack is good. Contains pretty much every codec you'd ever need to play stuff you d/l from the net.
Would be surprised if that doesn't make it work. |

you rock, i uninstalled all the other codecs, run k-lite and it fixed it. Thanks heaps.
i'll keep that in my re-install file for when i format soon. thanks thanks thanks ! |

or mplayer... easier than even vlc imo. though i use vlc sometimes for... dvds mostly.
