Default Dvd burner with Win 7

Bit of a lomg shot, but hoping someone can help me. I have a Pioneer Dvd burner, model - DVR=106d. It worked fine with XP, but only reads, won't write in 7. It is a few years old, so not sure about compatibility? Under device manager it's listed, but only a generic microsoft driver is installed (dated 2006). I can't seem to find any drivers or firmware updates for it on interweb. Is it a bin job?

Wow that's an old drive. My DVR 110D works with Win7 but that still 4 models from yours.

If you check the Win7 compatibility site they went back and checked to DVR 111.

Gut reaction is its just going to be too old BUT you could trawl http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Pioneer+DVR+106D+windows+7 and see if anything useful turns up.

Not really - I'va always been a fan of Pioneer and BenQ. Avoid Sony.

I do always try to get a PATA rather than SATA drive as I'd rather have the SATA ports free for hard drives.

In the end price is the major factor.

Some however would go and research it's abilities to burn / read protected disks . . . if you do then well google would be your friend again.

Best of luck

I'd guess any inbuilt DVD burning s/w with 7 is a pile of shit (if any exists) so you'll have to go for a 3rd party, nero or something similar? Nero is pretty average, but it does what I need it to do. I also use CloneDvd for copying movies.

I cant see it being the drive itself but rather the Software that is Controlling the Drive.

Windows 7 built in software is not very good at all.

Check for a drive Firmware upgrade via searching Google.

The 106D is a Old drive but you may not have the latest firmware for it.

New burners are Sub $50 these days anyways.

Bit of a bizarre one....a mates laptop had a similar problem. It actually needed the latest video drivers to be installed before it worked in 7. The install just used default windows drivers but he had to get the nvidia ones for his DVD drive to work properly.
