I have a 128GB SSD in my MAC and makes a big difference from a 7200rpm SATA drive.

I don't need to space as I transfer all my Downloads from my MAC to my Windows System with 3TB of space.

Intel are Quality but have a High Price Tag

I built a new i7 recently and got the OCZ Vertex 2 120Gb.
Windows 7 64bit.
Everything is FAST. Photoshop cs4 loads almost instantly.

Haven't played any games yet, but it really is a new level of computing.
I considered getting a Mac, but honestly bang for buck they aren't even close, way out of my price range.

I looked into these about 4 months ago and the 'thing' to make sure of about your new SSD drive was that it had a Sandforce SF-1200 controller.

Tom's Hardware had lots to day about it at the time (go read it yourself if you are into a lot of technical stuff) but it basically boiled down to this controller being the one difference between a drive being ordinary and being awesome.

You should be able to find the specs for any drive you want to buy on the intertubes, and the specs will tell you what sort of controller the drive you are looking at has.

BTW I didn't buy one at the time, I chose to go with a SATA drive and spend the rest of the money on a faster graphics card. I can wait while a game loads but I'll be buggered if I'm going to put up with poor frame rates

Cheers,

Wrxpc

good choice for the price. No need for the controller providing you have sata2 on your motherboard. Just follow that SSD guide and you will be smiling when its installed.

(HDD vs SSD in games make no difference in fps)

I'm talking about the controller on the SSD drive it's self, nothing to do with the motherboard controller (which every motherboard has anyway). Every SSD drive had a controller on it - think of it as the little bit of circuit board on the bottom of your current SATA drive and you will have the general idea.

If you read the product .pdf on the OCZ site it does say what controller - SandForce 1222. I imagine that this is a revision of the 1200 controllers that I read up on last year, but you should check it yourself to make sure.

Cheers,

Wrxpc
