More cars and seat time will definitely help.
Selected race cars for the night will need to be purchased and in a lot of cases modified in order to be competitive.

First step, licences.
Next get into the seasonal races for some easy money.
The cars will come pretty easily after that.

There is a total of 2+ GB of updates if your are playing GT5 for the first time.

Install time 60+ min depending on internet speeds.

Then start with as many Licences as you can and go from there.

Tell me about it, my wi fe got Mae ps3 for Christmas with GT5 and I turn it on for the first time and it tells me that here is a huge update required.

Yeah, you just use your email address to sign up, make yourself a cheezy username and voila you're good to go.

On that note it is now well worth getting a username and logging in each day so that you can collect the prize multipliers. After 5 consecutive log ins you will win double the prize money and double the experience points for each event so you'll be able to progress through the game much quicker.

I'll head down tomorrow and grab a copy from EB as I think they have it for $30, that is if they are open.
