Did we get an updated quick rack steering too?

I'm sure Lewis will know - he's a Human STi Almanac ;-)
Yeah the 05 got a canon mount steering rack but they are not as quick as RA ratios.

They did do normal Silver, 5 colours all up White,Black,Silver,Blue & CGM.

*They have a Helical front and Mech rear LSD.
*RE070 tyres
*Tightarse plastic coolant tanks
*Pretty much everything is covered except they changed the badging & stickers

wow thanks for all the replay ladies and gents. i think i will look more serious into the 05 as i am looking at doing more track work with the new car :)
Some differences I can recall off the top of my head include:

different wheels (17x8), different PCD (114.3), different tyres, updated interior trim & blingy dash/dials, upgraded LSD (helical not suretrac?), slightly wider track, underbody diffuser, control arms, .....
exactly what fred said.. also the sti rear emblem is different and the side panels have blue suede surrounding the door handle.. Also the seats are a bit wider asfaik, sourced for the fat U.S drivers..

Sethor 27-02-2007 05:08 PM

Seats are the same but with different trim, the US STi seats are closer in shape to what we get in the special editions that have leather & side airbags.

Can anyone explain what exactly a "cannon mount" steering rack is?

REXXX 27-02-2007 10:11 PM
Can anyone explain what exactly a "cannon mount" steering rack is?
a Cannon Mount steering rack bolts directly to the front suspension subframe. it's a rigidity thing. improves general responsiveness.
apparently it also has an integrated damper of some sort to reduce shock rebound.

they are machines.. making me want to call my bank :(

05 sti with genuine forged aftermarket internals would be a perfect modding base.

would be very hard to beat from a value point of view, would even give the evo's a run I reckon..

Josh 28-02-2007 11:22 AM

Thing is though Pete, EVO8 MR's can be had for about $45,000 for a 2005 model with about 20,000 Kay's which is pretty similar price point to the 05 STi's. I know which car I would choose.

confuzion 28-02-2007 11:57 AM

yeah - 05sti :)
