When you turn the key to the on position can you hear a relay go click then click again after about 2 seconds? can you hear the fuel pump operate for 2 seconds when you turn the key on?

Yep, definitely check if the pump is priming. If it is, no reason why your car shouldnt start.

If it doesnt prime, then its either your pump, relay or fuse.

A dead fuel pump wont cause stuttering....a fuel pump will be fine one minute, and dead the next.

when an afm goes it does something similar to that. it will kick over and try to start but won't actually fire.

an AFM failure will still allow your car to start, it will just idle like crap
take off your AFM, and car will still start
