over the last weeks i hav noticed that on cold start, wat sounds like a big end rattle has bin occuring. i havnt modded the car since i bought it. i asked the guys at subaru and they said that on cold starts the oil pump is a bit laisy and is very common with these models

... not sure bought that.
i then took it to seans to get an exhaust fitted he says its definately big end nock!!!
it started with a litle rattle and now goes for about 2seconds. but only on cold starts...
so i havn't put the exhaust on for warranty reasons. anyone got any thoughts on this matter.....????

i hav booked it in at subaru

I call bullshit on that.

Definitely get it checked out, and if its a big end knock, get Subaru to sort it out for ya under warranty!

oh for sure. i thought it was a bit suss. but that would mean rebuild if not fresh motor... right?

Correct, if they warrant the claim and it IS definitely a big end bearing.

yeh well i havnt touched the car modifying wise, all ive done is change the globes, and my mate works there and he can vouch for that. so i dont see the problem with them fixing it.

My advice is to get the guys at RMS to have a look, they seem to know of a common problem with these that sounds like a big end knock but is actually something else that costs far far less to fix.
Otherwise go for warranty and good luck.

Could be a collapsed engine mount. Pretty rare, but sounds just like big end knocking.

do they hav a number i could call and just ask or should i take the car in.... if its wat u say it is i should b able to explain it to them over the phone.... no?
